Zimbabwe's Mugabe International Airport project makes new progress

On April 3, 2018, Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa led a delegation to pay a friendly state visit to our country. During his visit to China, the Export-Import Bank of China and the Ministry of Finance of Zimbabwe signed a preferential loan agreement for the Zimbabwe Mugabe International Airport Reconstruction and Expansion Project on behalf of the two countries respectively. The contract value of the preferential loan project is approximately US$153 million and the contract period is 36 months. The project is implemented by CJI Company.

After the loan agreement was signed, the China-Tianjin cooperation parties actively cooperated and resolved the entry into force conditions of the project contract and loan conditions. At the National Assembly Assembly on May 10, 2018, after the joint efforts and promotion of all parties, the National Assembly of Zimbabwe formally approved the upgrade and expansion project of Mugabe International Airport.

Zimbabwe's Finance Minister Chinamasa said in an interview that through the expansion of the international terminal, the introduction of the most advanced passenger service systems and related facilities, and the renovation of the runway and lighting facilities, the safety and convenience of the airport will be greatly improved. The expanded Mugabe International Airport will serve as a regional aviation hub in southern Africa and will significantly increase passenger traffic like Victoria Falls International Airport. The Minister of Finance fully affirmed the smooth delivery and good operation of the reconstruction and expansion project of Victoria Falls International Airport implemented by CJI, and praised the start of the construction of Harare Mugabe International Airport to promote Zimbabwe's economy and social development.

At present, China and Tianjin are working together to achieve the contract entry into force conditions and initial loan conditions set by the Export-Import Bank of China as soon as possible, so that loans can be started as soon as possible. This project will create new achievements for the group company in overseas large-scale infrastructure construction and make certain contributions to the realization of the group company's "13th Five-Year Plan" development goals.
